QUEENS, NEW YORK, January 6, 2006 -- The Board of Directors of Forestdale, Inc. today announced the appointment of Anstiss B. Agnew to the post of Executive Director of the agency. She succeeds Joy Bailey who led the agency for over 23 years.
Anstiss B. Agnew was the former Executive Director of Inwood House an organization serving the needs of high-risk teens in the city of New York. She has held positions including Director of Assessment and Evaluation for New York City’s Child Welfare Administration (now known as the Administration for Children’s Services) and served as a clinical supervisor at the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services. She previously held a faculty appointment at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she worked in the Depression Evaluation Service, and Child Psychiatry.
“The Board of Directors and I are delighted to welcome Anstiss Agnew to Forestdale,” said Daphne Loukides, Chair of the Board. “Her qualities of leadership, energy, and vision are exactly what the Board was looking for as we embrace new opportunities and challenges in serving children and families in our community.”
“Forestdale has a strong, 150 year history and tradition of caring service to children who are at risk, and to their families,” said Agnew. “There is an urgent need in our community for the services we provide. Our tradition of caring is very much alive today and is expressed through a genuine kindness and commitment on the part of the people who work here. It’s something we’re known for. Also, Forestdale has unusually strong assets, including extraordinary location and facilities, and financial strength. From this firm base our Board of Directors is committed to pursuing new initiatives to meet the increasingly complex needs of the children of the City of New York.”
Forestdale assists over 1,000 children and their families in Queens each year through a range of programs that includes intensive services so that children may remain in their homes; foster care placement when a family is overwhelmed; reunification of children with their natural families; adoption; mentoring services for high risk fathers and assistance to teens to help them prepare for independence and adulthood.
