In addition to being Women’s History Month, March is also National Professional Social Work Month – an opportunity to celebrate a profession dedicated to enhancing the well-being of others and meeting the basic needs of all people, especially the most vulnerable in our society (NASW, 2018). According to NASW (the National Association of Social Workers), this year’s theme is, “Social Workers: Leaders. Advocates. Champions.” This theme beautifully describes the work of Forestdale’s social workers, including all of our Case Planners (i.e. Foster Care, Preventive Services, Strong Mothers, Strong Fathers, and Strong Futures/Youth Development Case planners). Forestdale’s social workers make up the bulk of our workforce; we are well aware that our social workers are the first-line safety net for our clients, serving as each family’s main contact with Forestdale. Our social workers confront some of the most challenging issues facing individuals, families, communities, and society and forge solutions that help people reach their full potential and make our nation a better place to live (Nt’l Assoc.of Social Workers, No. Carolina Chapter, 2018). Be it stable housing, psychological services, educational access, job-training, career counseling, court advocacy, or other services, and/or therapy/counseling, our social workers are on the case! We are grateful to all of our social work staff for all that they do day in and day out to uphold our mission “to ensure that children and families have the fundamental assets needed to thrive and live independently”.
